CITY CLERK
Internet Audio Broadcasting of City Council Study Sessions - While the City Clerk's Office has been streaming and archiving the 6 p.m. portion of the City Council meetings on the web since late 2005, residents have not been able to access the 4 p.m. audio recorded study sessions. Effective with the October 16 meeting, the public can listen to Study Sessions and Council meetings held "off-site" at the city's website, www.surfcity-hb.org. The audio recordings will be available for listening the day after the meeting and will be accessed the same way streamed video is currently accessed. Individuals viewing archived meeting audio or video can "jump to" specific agenda items of interest and link to staff reports on the same page. Watch the next City Council meeting live by visiting www.surfcity-hb.org and clicking on the buttons for Government, Agendas & Minutes, Council Live and Archive Meeting Videos.

Inter-generational Project at Michael E. Rodgers Seniors' Center - Students from Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach have adopted the Senior Center to fulfill their volunteer service requirement for a Survival Skills class, a class that is focused on functional, career based, vocational skills. The students decorate monthly and help create a vibrant environment inside the decades-old center. In October, the students twisted kraft paper to shape floor-to-ceiling 3-D trees with flying bats and large paper pumpkins. On Thursday, November 2, the bats will be replaced with fall leaves, as the large meeting room will continue to transform with the season. "The partnership with the senior center has been a positive experience for our students and our staff," said Wendy Einhorn, Speech Therapist, who partners with teacher Lona Pacheco in the project. The seniors who come to the center love the new look and appreciate the fact that young people have created it.

PUBLIC WORKS
Pothole Repairs - We have all known that sound - "Ka-Thunk!" as our car bumps through a pothole. The startling sensation can rattle your nerves as well as your vehicle. Potholes occur when weathered road surfaces or underground drainage allows water to saturate the road base beneath the asphalt. Waterlogged grades become soft and are no longer able to support the weight of traffic. The pavement eventually breaks into small pieces that are kicked out by passing tires, leaving a hole. Public Works is ready to combat these road inconveniences but needs the public's assistance in locating potholes in order to make timely repairs. If you encounter a pothole while out and about in Huntington Beach, report it to the Maintenance Division at 960-8861. Once reported, the Street Maintenance staff will repair most potholes within three working days. The Maintenance Division is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays (4 p.m. on Fridays). Voice mail is available for after-hours reporting. When reporting a pothole, please be prepared to leave a detailed location including the street name, nearest cross street, and any other geographic information that will direct city staff to the offending pothole.
