HB1 Statistics For May - Congratulations to the Aero Bureau on passing the 100,000-hour mark of flying time since the inception of the unit in the early 70's. Officer Dan Catalano, now the most experienced pilot in the unit, was flying the airship on May 26 when they reached the milestone. Another officer in the unit attained his Certified Flight Instructor rating, bringing the unit up to four CFI qualified pilots. During the month, the unit gave several tours to school and church groups and participated in the department's Open House. The citizens enjoyed the close up look at HB1. There were several incidents of note this past month. HB1 assisted patrol officers who were looking for a suspect who had fled from them following the commission of a crime. The aircrew located the suspect hiding on the top of a building. They also responded to a commercial burglary, located the suspect's vehicle, and directed ground patrol officers to the suspect who was arrested. The unit responded to 231 calls during the month, made 12 felony arrests, issued 17 citations, and was able to cancel ground officers 68 times on calls for service.
