Beginning Roller Skating - Did your toddler get some new skates for Christmas and doesn't know how to use them? On February 25, a new Beginning Roller and Inline Skating for Tots class starts at the Skate Zone, 16091 Gothard Street. This is a five-week, Saturday class from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. specifically for three to six year olds. The fee is $35, and quad skate rental is included in the fee. Protective equipment is recommended. Sign up at Murdy Community Center.
City Policy about Human Dignity - Come celebrate the 10th anniversary of the city's Declaration of Policy about Human Dignity. On hand for the celebration will be Mayor Sullivan, past Mayors Shirley Dettloff and Ralph Bauer, and three of the original signers of the Declaration of Policy. The anniversary celebration will feature a panel discussion, entertainment, and refreshments. Additional speakers will include Police Chief Ken Small; Alan Chancellor, Chair of the Human Relations Task Force; and Rusty Kennedy, Executive Director of the Orange County Human Relations Commission. The event begins at 7 p.m., on February 23, in the Civic Center Council Chambers.
Marine Safety - Since the new year, Marine Safety Officers and Lifeguards have been very busy. In addition to normal patrol, medical, law enforcement, and emergency response duties, Marine Safety personnel continue to provide surveillance on the dredging pipeline adjacent to the pier that had been cut adrift by the contractor for the Bolsa Chica inlet project. Staff members have also responded to suicide calls (4), graffiti incidents, alcohol and drug violations, hazardous material recovery, and a report of a BB gun shooting. In the past week, Marine Safety has assisted with four film shoots at the beach. Marine Safety statistics through February 20 were as follows: Attendance - 734,318; Public Contacts - 18,771; Preventative Actions - 611; Law Enforcement Contacts - 3,811; Medical Aids - 24; Lost & Found Persons - 4; Preventative Incidents - 36; Wildlife Calls - 3; Drownings - 0.
