ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Ocean View Estates - Rules & Projects - Ocean View Estates, the 44-space city-owned mobilehome park located at the corner of Ellis and Goldenwest, has been operating with the same park rules and regulations since inception. Together with the park residents, Real Estate Services has been working to revise and update the rules and regulations to be more reflective of the current park's needs. Two meetings were held. A final draft is being mailed to the residents this week and will be sent to the City Council for their consideration in 2006. In addition, a few improvement projects were completed during 2005. The streets and driveways were slurry sealed, several signage and marking projects were completed (fire lanes, animals, and dumping), and a chain link fence was installed between the park and Sully Miller Lake. After the streets were red-striped for the fire lane designation, the need for additional parking was recognized. Additional parking will soon be installed within the park. These projects could not be done without the assistance of the Maintenance Operations Division of the Public Works Department. They have exemplified the highest level of customer service!
FIRE DEPARTMENT
Welcome New Fire Department Safety Personnel - The Fire Department is happy to announce it has added three new firefighters: Chris Brown, Kane Johnson, and Phil Voci; and four firefighter/paramedics: Eric Forshay, Ronny Perez, Keito Sato, and Cody Snyder, to its family. They were officially welcomed into the department at a graduation and badge pinning ceremony on December 7.
PUBLIC WORKS
Bartlett Park Annual Cleanup - A team of workers from the Orange County Conservation Corps (OCCC) conducted a two-day cleanup of Bartlett Park on November 29 and 30. The cleanup, coordinated and supervised by the Parks, Trees and Landscape Section, was funded through a grant obtained by Public Works from the state of California Department of Conservation, Recycling Division. The eight-person team worked diligently to remove an estimated three tons of trash and debris from the area. The effort also recovered approximately 150 pounds of glass, 60 pounds of aluminum, and 30 pounds of plastic for recycling. OCCC provides an opportunity for at-risk youth and young adults to learn work skills and develop a work ethic & sense of community responsibility. The program encourages the participants to further their formal educations and develop leadership skills, which in turn better equips them to enter the workforce.
