COMMUNITY SERVICES

Parking & Camping - Christmas parties booked at the Hilton Hotel and Hyatt Resort throughout December increase beach parking lot demand. On Saturday, December 9, over 1,800 patrons parked in the beach parking lot between Beach Boulevard and Huntington Street and used the pedestrian overpass to access the Toyota Christmas Party held at the Hyatt. This special event and others that are booked in December generate revenue for the city without impacting beach parking or overnight camping needs. Staff meets and plans well in advance to coordinate with all entities to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for everyone.

Council on Aging - The Huntington Beach Council on Aging (COA) will celebrate its annual holiday party at the Rodgers Seniors Center on Thursday, December 14, at 1 p.m. The admission price is $5. At a recent board meeting, the COA voted to assist the Ocean View High School "Survival Skills" class with a $300 donation to help offset upcoming field trip costs. OVHS teachers Lona Pacheco and Wendy Einhorn have spearheaded efforts with students in this class in providing the Senior Center with decorations since October.

PLANNING

Design Review Board Vacancies - The city of Huntington Beach is seeking applicants for its two vacancies on the Design Review Board (DRB). One vacancy is for an at-large city resident, and the other is for an alternate at-large city resident. The at-large member will be a regular member of the five-member board, which is comprised of a Planning Commissioner, two at-large city residents, and two staff members. The alternate at-large member will serve on an as-needed basis when one of the two regular at-large city resident members is unable to attend a meeting. The board is responsible for assisting the Planning Commission, Zoning Administrator, and Planning Director in reviewing and providing recommendations on development plans and architectural drawings within designated areas of the city. Although open to any interested resident, individuals with an education in design are desirable. Any interested person must be a resident of the city of Huntington Beach and should be available to attend regularly scheduled meetings on the second Thursday of each month, at 3:30 p.m. When necessary, additional meetings may be scheduled for the fourth Thursday of each month. Individuals interested in the DRB positions may go online at www.surfcity-hb.org./government/Boards&Commissions to fill out an application. The vacancies are open until filled. For any questions regarding the Design Review Board, please contact Rosemary Medel, Design Review Board Secretary, Department of Planning, at 374-1684.
