Emergency Management and Homeland Security

The purpose of the City of Huntington Beach's Emergency Preparedness Program is to prepare for and respond effectively to major emergencies.  It establishes and maintains an Emergency Management System which coordinates preparedness, response, and recovery phases for natural disasters, and homeland security emergencies.

The City has a comprehensive Emergency Management Program which includes all elements necessary to respond quickly and effectively to major emergencies.  These elements include: an Emergency Management Plan, Emergency Operations Center, trained and equiped Public Safety Officers, Employee Safety Officer Program, Public Education Program, and trained volunteers.

Volunteers are a vital part of the City's disaster preparedness program.  They include the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services) programs.  For information on upcoming community preparedness training, please see the attached schedule for CERT 2008 advanced training classes. The registration form can be obtained here.
