Residential Collection The City of Huntington Beach provides weekly residential curbside trash collection from single-family residences, and from multi-family residences of not more than four dwelling units, through an exclusive franchise with Rainbow Disposal Co. Inc. The City invoices residents for this service on their municipal services bill, which will typically include charges for other City services such as water, sewer, and FireMed membership. The current rate for residential curbside trash collection is $0.6122 per day, which is approximately $18.62 per dwelling unit per month. This rate is reviewed annually by City Council. Adjustments become effective each July 1 and are based on the following formula:

Collection will always be made on the scheduled day
unless that day is one of the following contractual holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence
Day (4th of July), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas
Day. When a collection
day falls on one of the above holidays, then trash service for the day of the
holiday and the remainder of the week will be delayed by one day. When the holiday falls on Sunday, the Monday
after will be observed as the holiday and trash service for the entire week
will be delayed by one day.

Trash
should be placed out for collection prior to 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled trash
day. Trash containers may NOT be placed
for collection prior to noon on the day before your collection. Containers must be put away by 10:00 p.m. on
the day of collection. City ordinance
requires that you keep your containers off the street and out of public view at
ALL other times.

The City of
Huntington Beach residential trash service does not include special
containers. Each household provides
their own containers. Our city has a
manual collection system (people collect the trash, not machines) so we do
regulate the size and weight of trash placed for curbside collection. City regulation requires that:
Trashcans may not
exceed 32 gallons in size and may not exceed 60 pounds of normal household
waste.
Tree limbs, palm
fronds, and other such matter must be securely tied in bundles no longer than
four feet in length. Each bundle left for collection may not exceed 40 pounds.

residents enjoy unlimited collection of normal household trash each week. You may place as many legal size containers
or bundles for collection as is necessary for your household’s accumulation of
trash.
Special
Pick-Up
Huntington Beach
households with regular trash can service are entitled to two special, bulky-item
pick-ups per year free of charge. These
pick-ups must be scheduled in advance with Rainbow Disposal, and each is
limited to one bulky household item such as an appliance, water heater, sofa or
mattress. The item must be placed at
your regular curbside collection place for the scheduled pick-up appointment. Due to their high lead content, televisions
and computer monitors must be disposed of at a Household Hazardous Waste
Collection Center and cannot be picked up by Rainbow Disposal.

established by direct contract between business owners and landlords and the
City’s franchised trash collector, Rainbow Disposal Co. Inc.
