Huntington Beach "Reads One Book" Program

Read One Book Photo

About Huntington Beach Reads One Book
The Huntington Beach Human Relations Task Force and the Huntington Beach Library Board of Trustees have selected Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and award-winning journalist David Oliver Relin for a city-wide Huntington Beach Reads One Book project for fall 2007 through February 2008.  The idea: all adult readers, students and families in Huntington Beach read the same book at the same time for a community-wide experience.

The story of American Greg Mortenson—a mountain climber turned humanitarian—is an engaging tale of his introduction to a culture very different from his own and a chronicle about how one person can make a difference.  Residents are invited to read the book and participate in Three Cups of Tea events as described below.

Book Discussion Groups
Join other book enthusiasts on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 7:00 p.m. in the Balboa Room of the Huntington Beach Central Library (located at Goldenwest St. and Talbert Ave.) to participate in a book discussion.  Or, form your own discussion group and download the reading guide to facilitate discussions with your group, as well as a bibliography for children and adults for further reading about Pakistan and Afghanistan

Author Visit to Huntington Beach
On Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 7:00 p.m., the program culminates in the Huntington Beach High School gymnasium, located at 1905 Main Street, Huntington Beach, with a special visit by author Greg Mortenson.  The event is presented free of charge.  Reservations are not required to hear the author discuss the stories in the book, his work in Central Asia, and to meet him for a book signing after his talk.  Seating is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.  Doors will open at 6:15 pm and parking is located on the south side of the high school or in the City Hall parking lot located across the street.  Carpooling is encouraged!
