California is an emerging leader in renewable energy strategies and sustainability practices. From renewable energy sources and sustainable design, California is pioneering the way in current efforts toward a more independent future. Huntington Beach is no exception.
Since 1999, the City has begun to overhaul existing facility equipment and replace units when practical with new, more energy efficient models. In addition, in 2006, the City had an Energy Efficiency Assessment completed for 13 existing HB municipal facilities. The assessment identified 10 Energy Conservation Opportunities to be considered for future involvement of overall energy conservation, including changes to lighting, tankless water heaters, heating and air conditioning, and traffic signals.
The installation of more energy efficient equipment and upgrades throughout the City’s facilities will save money and further protect the environment. More specifically, if all of the modifications are accomplished, it is estimated that there will be a savings of 1,380,638 KWh and $177,884 in costs annually. After rebates, this would pay back the initial investment in 3 years.
