Outreach Services, under the direction of the Community Services Department since 1974, assists the frail and elderly in the city with their physical, emotional, and nutritional needs.  This is done through professionally trained staff and volunteers.  The center's goal is to promote self-sufficiency and independence for seniors. In addition, the center also provides resources and individual counseling for families of aging parents.

SERVICES

  • Delivered Meals, Monday through Friday,  10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
  • Holiday Meals: Valentine's Day, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas
  • Transportation - for medical appointments, grocery shopping and to Rodgers Seniors' Center
  • Care Management - links frail elderly to services
  • Information and Assistance
  • Free Lending Service - wheelchairs, walkers and other equipment
  • CHERISH - Community Helpers Engaged in Restoring and Improving Seniors' Homes
  • Emergency Food Certificates
  • Telecare - telephone reassurance call
  • Friendly Visitors
  • College Internships
  • Caregiver Referral Service

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Volunteers are needed to support Outreach Services and the Michael E. Rodgers Seniors' Center.  Become a COAST (Council on Aging Senior Team) Volunteer. Volunteer training is scheduled each month at the Senior Outreach Center. For additional information or reservations, please call Diane Swarts, Volunteer Coordinator, at 714-374-1544. Volunteers can assist in the following areas:

  • Delivering meals to Huntington Beach frail and elderly
  • Transporting seniors to medical appointments and grocery shopping
  • Assisting with special events
  • Assisting in the office - computer skills are desirable
  • Providing a "listening ear" through Telecare
  • Project SHARE - Intergenerational program in local schools - tutoring, listening, sharing and caring! Students need you
  • Project SHIP - Home Safety Education 
  • Production of Bright Outlook Newsletter
  • Friendly Visitation of Seniors
  • Senior Saturday Community Festival - Volunteers are needed to set-up, provide assistance during the day and cleanup
