WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CAR IS "BOOTED"?

The Huntington Beach Police Department began using the "Rhino Vehicle Immorbilizer" (commonly called the boot) in June of 2003. Vehicles that have accumulated more than five (5) unpaid City of Huntington Beach parking citations will be "booted." Large yellow and orange notices will be placed on the vehicle explaining how to have the boot removed. The actions that you need to take to have the boot removed are:

• Arrangements for release of this vehicle must be made with the Traffic Bureau immediately. Telephone (714) 536-5663, Monday through Friday during business hours or (714) 960-8811 after hours. The vehicle will be removed from the street and impounded within 72 hours after installation of the device. (Vehicles parked in Tow Away Zone or restricted parking area, or blocking or impeding traffic, may be towed immediately).

• To obtain release of the vehicle, payment of delinquent parking tickets must be made by cash, money order, certified check or credit card. No PERSONAL CHECKS. Prior to release of vehicle, you must provide proof of current registration. You are entitled to a Post Seizure Hearing. Inquire at the number above or in person at the Huntington Beach Police Traffic Bureau..

• You must also pay a fee of $100.00 will be charged in addition to payment of the delinquent parking citations.

• Once payment has been verified, a Parking Control Officer will immediately remove the "boot."
