Michele Diaz receives July Mayor's Award

On July 21, 2008, Michele Diaz of the Huntington Beach Building & Safety Department received the Mayor's Award. This came after several years of hard-work and dedication. See this month's Community Connection for the full story!

The Building Department has implemented a program which allows consumers to obtain permits for Residential Energy Efficient Units, at no cost. With this program, all permit fees associated with the energy efficient unit will be waived. Items which qualify for the fee waiver are listed below:
*High Efficiency HVAC with an AFUE greater than 90
*High Efficiency AC with a SEER 14 or higher
*Tankless Water Heaters with a minimum energy factor of 0.80
*Photovoltaic systems
*Solar water heating systems (home or pool)Please call the Building Department at (714)536-5241, and press “0” for further information.

If you are an architect, engineer, designer or contractor that performs work within the State of California, please be advised that the City of Huntington Beach adopted the 2007 California Building Standards Code which took effect on January 1, 2008.The new state building code is based on the 2006 International Building Code (IBC) and it is significantly different than the Uniform Building Code (UBC).
All new plan review applications submitted after December 31, 2007 will be required to comply with the new code.
The 2007 California Building Codes series is currently available for purchase from the International Code Council, at http://www.iccsafe.org.
