Window Replacements

Windows in residential structures may be replaced without obtaining a building permit provided the replacement complies with all of the following:
1. The window, when replaced, complies with the light, ventilation, and emergency egress requirements in effect at the time the structure was built.
*Note: Retrofit windows that are installed inside of existing window frames reduce the size of the opening and can potentially result in substandard openings for ventilation or emergency egress purposes.
2. The window replacement does not require structural modifications.
3. The window replacement does not require removal of the frame, jamb or any disruption to the flashing or weatherproofing around the window.
Stainless Steel Ground Rods

Listed stainless steel ground rods are required in Huntington beach due to corrosive soil conditions. HBMC 17.48.040
When electrical services are upgraded, the grounding electrode system must also be upgraded. If there is no concrete encased electrode (ufer) available, a listed stainless steel ground shall be driven eight feet into the soil as close as practicable to the service location. The interior water piping system shall be bonded to the new service equipment.
When the water service pipe in the yard is replaced, a listed stainless ground rod shall be driven eight fee into the soil at any convenient location. The ground rod shall be connected to the service equipment and to the interior metallic water piping system.
The size of the grounding electrode conductor shall be in accordance with Article
250.66 of the 2007 California Electric Code
Cool Roof Requirements

Pursuant to the State of California Conservation of Energy Act, when re-roofing certain types of structures, the new roofing shall include thte use of an approved "COOL ROOF" material that complies with Title 24 standards. Please see thelinks below for more information:
Customer Survey Cards

The Building and Safety Department is looking for feedback from its customers. As a result, you may notice that the inspector has left a customer survey card for you to fill out. Please take the time to rate the service you received from the
inspector and/or counter staff. Please drop the survey card in the mail. Postage is pre-paid. In addition, some customers may be randomly selected to receive the survey cards through the mail. The information we receive will be used to make improvements to better serve our customers.
Installation Instructions

Please have the installation instruction booklet available for your inspectorduringinspections. These booklets often come packaged with water heaters, furnaces,fireplaces, pool heaters, air conditioner equipments, etc. For further information, please call the Building Department at (714)536-5241 and press "0".
Smoke Detectors

Smoke detectors shall be required to be installed in all dwelling units per the 2007 California Building Code. Battery powered smoke detectors are acceptable in retrofit applications.
Upon final inspection, please make arrangements for access into all bedrooms so that the inspector can verify that smoke detectors have been installed and are functioning in all bedrooms. Smoke detectors shall also be located in hallways serving bedrooms, and at least one smoke detector shall be installed on each floor level. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for specific installation requirements.
